About Solution Seeker
Solution Seeker is a scaleup that builds ProductionCompass AI for production optimization across a range of industries. Born out of NTNU, we have grown into 35 young and forward-leaning employees.
Our software streams live sensor data from production facilities all over the world, which is processed by a modular, event-driven system and cleaned using patented algorithms that select the most valuable data points for training our machine learning models. Among those models is NeuralCompass, our industrial sensor AI, which delivers predictions for thousands of petroleum wells around the world.
On top of this, we build web applications that visualize and contextualize client data with our predictions and analyses, enabling clients to make informed decisions for optimizing production.
Research matters to us, and we dedicate a significant portion of our time and resources to machine learning research. Active topics include generative and probabilistic modeling, language models and agents for industrial data, hybrid modeling (combining physics and machine learning), and data-driven production optimization.
Job description
As a Data Scientist you will be digging into and working with our data, being involved with the most important challenges we face technically and strategically. Your tasks may include some of the following: analyzing large amounts of production data and solving real challenges for clients, further developing and optimizing our data pipeline and machine learning models, applying large language models and agents to industrial data, designing and developing applications based on customer needs, preparing and holding insightful presentations internally and externally, and getting involved in strategic considerations like go-to-market plan, positioning and delivery model. As a Data Scientist in a growing scale-up you combine technical and business skills. The role covers enough ground for you to find out where you want to go next: technical depth, customer-facing work, or leadership.
We match your strengths against where we need capacity at the time you join.
About you
We are looking for drive: someone who sees what needs doing and carries it through to finished work.
You take ownership of your work. You look for the need behind a task before you settle on how to solve it, and you stay with a problem until it is solved properly. That is punchiness as we use the word: you deliver quality, and you have the judgement to see which problems deserve the thorough fix and which ones call for a pragmatic one. You are technically strong, and curiosity is what keeps you moving: you ask good questions, and you walk into unfamiliar territory on purpose.
You also make the people around you better. You share what you know, you bring others into the conversation, and you own the outcome when things go sideways. Warmth is part of how we operate, and so is playfulness: we crack jokes in the middle of hard problems and keep a low bar for laughing at ourselves. We build a working environment where people can do good work, because happy engineers make for happy clients.
We are a young and fast-moving team. Priorities shift, problems arrive poorly defined, and there is plenty you will learn on the job. That is part of the appeal. We are world-leading experts in our field, and we hold that position by building groundbreaking solutions for our customers. If that is the work you want to do, come and do it with us.
What we offer
At Solution Seeker we value well-being, both socially and professionally. You will contribute to shaping your own workday, with the possibility of being part of multiple teams at the same time or hand-picking certain tasks you find interesting. As a company with young and outgoing employees, we enjoy small and big social activities like after-work beers, company trips and the "bring your friends party".
We offer flexible work hours and the opportunity to work remotely. Still, most of us prefer our spacious offices in downtown Oslo, and the daily delightful lunch conversations. If you want even more spice in your day-to-day life, it is possible to spend one or more of the cold winter months at our offices (and the beaches) in Rio de Janeiro.
If you think you are a good fit for the position, we look forward to receiving your application!
Skills & Requirements
You should have at least some of these qualifications:
Genuine interest in digitalization, machine learning and AI.
Belief in innovation as a force for change in the industry and the world.
You are good at identifying problems worth solving, not just solving the ones handed to you.
You take initiative and ownership of your work, and you see it through.
You pick up new subjects quickly, and you dig into the details.
You look for how the parts fit together, from the data itself to what the client ends up seeing. You want to understand more than the piece you are working on, and to take ownership of a part of it over time.
Comfortable working in a modern development environment.
You get real value out of AI tools, and you judge critically what they produce.
A strong logical sense, and basic programming ability you can build on.
Motivated to travel.
Proficient in written and spoken Norwegian and English.
A master's degree in technology or economics.
Experience from working on data, delivery or management of technology oriented projects, or in start-ups/scale-ups is an advantage, but not a requirement.
Bonus skills
Our tech stack is large and we do not expect you to know all of it, but any familiarity with the following is greatly appreciated:
Familiar with Python and/or TypeScript.
Experience of working with large data sets.
Experience/knowledge of React and/or Plotly Dash.
Simulation, optimization and modelling experience.
Applicants who can refer to open source projects, or their own projects, will be prioritized.
Ordinary start time for this position is August 2027, but an earlier starting date can be organized if preferred.
