In Trondheim, Norway, Yahoo develops Vespa.ai - the open big data serving engine that serves both Yahoo and external companies. Vespa.ai is used to make AI-driven decisions using big data, in real time, at any scale, with unbeatable performance.
Organizations use Vespa.ai to solve problems such as structured-, text-, and vector search, and real-time recommendation, personalization and targeting. The platform is open source under an Apache 2.0 license. It can be downloaded from vespa.ai, or used as a serverless managed service at cloud.vespa.ai.
We are looking for a talented developer to join the Yahoo Vespa Team in Trondheim for a 2023 summer internship. Our interns aren't assigned some made-up tasks as a summer exercise; we want your code in production on services serving half a million requests every second.
The 2023 internships span multiple projects - students engaged in machine learning as well as frontend development will work in teams to deliver new open source Vespa.ai features.
The Trondheim Team is 30 developers, located in Prinsens gate 49.
Responsibilities:
Work in an agile environment where we ship features daily to improve the experience and possibilities for our users
Collaborate with engineers across product, design, engineering, and operations to drive past the status quo
Ensure quality of code by writing tests and doing code reviews
Some experience in software engineering processes, tools, methods, test development
Experience with one of:
Java
Javascript (Vite, Mantine)
C++
Linux (RHEL, AlmaLinux)
Bonus: Familiarity with performance measurement, analysis and tuning methodologies for production sites.
Knowledge/experience with the AWS and GCP technology stacks is welcome
